I’ve seen too many small business owners struggle without the right support. So, I set out to build it.

The why behind YAS

Why I created YAS

My family is full of entrepreneurs, and it’s them (and business owners like them) that I wanted to support. Most small business owners don’t have the budget to hire a seasoned accountant right out of the gate, but your books still need to be in order and so you’re really just expected to figure it out. Pretty stressful, no? Your Accounting Sherpa is my way of trying to change that; to bridge that gap in service from us accountants. I wanted to create a single, accessible place where business owners managing their books all on their own could get real expert guidance and support. Where it’s based around your schedule and not anyone else’s. It’s the guidance, tools, and support I wish I could’ve given every business owner I met throughout my career that was looking for help. You might not be able to hire me as your accountant, but that doesn’t mean I can’t be your guide while you do it yourself.

What makes this different?

I imagine this is a question you’re currently asking yourself. Well, for starters, I’m not your accountant. I don’t know the inner workings or nuances of your business and your books and that’s by design. Just as important, this isn’t a course. Think of it like a Choose Your Own Journey. You’re not forced to sit through a course in order to reach the one issue you need to resolve. It’s a flexible, always-there resource built around your schedule and your pain point. Whether you clear out your QuickBooks every Friday morning or tackle it once a month with a glass of wine in hand, the tools are here when you need them. Stuck? Search the library and hit play. Want to know what your peers are doing? Ask in the member community because you might find someone in your industry who's dealt with the same thing. This space is about tapping into all your resources, including each other. Can’t find what you’re looking for? Let me know! If enough members are hitting the same wall, I’ll turn it into a video. This whole thing was built to be useful, responsive, and real. You don’t have to do it alone. You just need a guide.

Meet Breanne Mode, the Founder

The resume cliff notes are that I’ve worked in the accounting industry for over 20 years — as an auditor, a consultant, a Controller, a Director of an outsourced accounting team, and even as a small business owner myself. I have two degrees, a Bachelor of Science in Accounting and a Bachelor of Arts (Spanish major for this one) from the University of Denver. If you want to read more about my professional background, I would recommend hopping over to LinkedIn. I’ve seen the full spectrum of how accounting impacts businesses, and why getting it right really matters. While, sure, I’ve enjoyed being on the inside of larger companies, one thing always bothered me: the business owners who needed someone with my expertise the most were often the ones who struggled hardest to find and access it. Not the big companies with already full accounting teams (they don’t need more people like me). But the smaller ones, the scrappy ones, the ones doing it all on their own and figuring it all out. Those are the ones I want to share my knowledge and experience with.

Meet the rest of the highly qualified YAS team

Depending on the day, they’re either boosting morale or judging productivity. But they ultimately keep me sane while I work and so very much deserve a shoutout!

🐾 Lincoln — Chief Operations Overseer (aka The Fun Police)

Is it just me, or can you feel the judgement? At nearly 13 years old, Lincoln is now a grumpy old man but he runs a tight ship. He’s been with me since he was 8 weeks old and has personally overseen every accounting role, business pivot, and lunch break since. These days, he keeps a close eye on office morale (read: his sister Lucha), stares down distractions, and makes sure I stay focused. He’s my shadow, grumbles relentlessly at nonsense, and you will definitely hear him in several videos. Thus, I felt it it was important to give him recognition for his important contributions to the team and this project.

Honestly, this head shot perfectly captures her personality. Lucha joined the team shortly after our move to Mexico City and immediately made it her mission to bring joy to the workday — one bark and smile at a time. Equal parts playful and persistent, she specializes in vibe-boosting, midday zoomies, and enthusiastic contributions during video recordings. She thoroughly enjoys tormenting Linc and she keeps the energy high… which is exactly why we have The Fun Police. Balance.
